Eco tourism is environmentally, socially responsible travel to unique natural regions with a focus on conserving biological and cultural diversity while engaging with sustainable community and global initiatives.
Our Standards of Authentic Green Practice
~Follow "Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics" ~Efficiency in the use of natural resources ~Tourism that does not degrade the natural environment ~Focus on providing guests opportunities to personally & directly experience nature ~Ecotourism as an opportunity for long-term protection of the land and resources
An Attitude of Respect
~Toward the privacy & dignity of other humans & wildlife (ASTA) ~Toward cultural resources: artistic, archeological & cultural heritages ~Sensitive to interpret & involve the cultures existing in the region (GG21) ~Follow TIES guidelines for encountering wildlife (TIES)
~Support ecotourism education & training through programs & advocacy on regional, national & global levels ~Research to explore and collaborate ideas & practices on environmental, socio-economic & cultural topics (TOI) ~Communicate priority issues and raise visibility of initiatives in the tourism sector to increase general awareness (TOI) ~Offer guests first-hand, small group experiences in effective learning environments that provide a lasting positive impact
Sustainable Small Business Practices
~Commit to & represent the principles of best practice for environmentally sustainable tourism (GG21) ~Our small business practices will not overtax resource supplies of the local region (PW) ~As our small business grows, we will maintain integrity through constant analysis of our practices to adhere to our original code of ethics ~Office and general practices follow sustainable commerce principles ~Portions of our revenue contribute to conservation efforts & the local community
~Partnering with accommodations that uphold sustainable practices, utilize local businesses & labor, and contribute to natural conservation efforts on & off-site ~Fully screen for 'greenwashing' by researching practices & green certifications of establishments prior to reserving accommodations (www.stopgreenwash.org Greenpeace) ~Supporting ecolodges whenever possible--lodging that is to be sustainable, in harmony with environment
Smart Sustainable Transportation ~We believe in altering behavior, making a continual & constant effort to decrease our carbon footprints & those of others instead of charging an additional fee to purchase carbon offsets for each travel experience ~Carbon offsets can be purchased at any time through reputable organizations ~Each travel experience will provide transportation options that have been fully researched to provide the best outcome for the environment and our guests (rideshare, public transport, light rail, Silent Sports vs motors)
How We Give Back
~Giving back is a collaborative effort by WILD EARTH ECO TOURS & our guests-- we can all make positive contributions to conservation, communities, and sustainable travel--one experiencec & exchange at a time! ~Join our programs through Edutourism & Voluntourism that offer small group experiences involving participants directly by actively contributing to a local community/culture and/or a conservation effort ~Portions of our revenue contribute to conservation and local community projects. For example in 2013, we're contributing matching funds for the non-profit Herbalists Without Borders.
